Engineering Leadership

Hello, I'mBarry HenryEngineering Leader

I apply engineering principles to the entire system — teams, processes, platforms, and culture. Precision, pressure, and process. High-extraction engineering at every altitude of the organisation.

About The System ☕

Engineering is like coffee extraction — it requires precision, the right amount of pressure, and a repeatable process. I build the systems that let organisations operate at their highest extraction yield.

20+ years of shipping, leading, and scaling. Currently focused on platform engineering and high-performance team design.

Philosophy

How I Think About Engineering

These are the principles I apply at every altitude — from architecture decisions to team design to the way a pull request is reviewed.

01

Precision Over Speed

Fast is easy. Precise is hard. I optimise for systems that are measurably correct before they are fast — because speed built on a shaky foundation is just scheduled failure.

02

Pressure Reveals Design

Load tests don't break systems — they reveal the system you actually built. Every incident is a spec document for what your architecture assumed but never stated.

03

Culture Is Infrastructure

Engineering culture is the most important platform you will ever ship. It determines the throughput of every team that runs on top of it. Invest in it like a critical dependency.

04

Extraction Is a Metric

Every team, process, and tool should be measured by how much value it extracts per unit of effort. If you cannot measure it, you cannot improve it. If you cannot improve it, remove it.

05

Org Design Is Systems Design

Conway's Law is not a warning — it is a design tool. Shape the org to produce the architecture you want. Every team boundary is an API contract waiting to be written.

06

Defaults Determine Outcomes

High-performing teams are not built on heroics — they are built on defaults. What is the path of least resistance? Make that path the right one, and excellence becomes the norm.
